Euro Auctions experienced its best sale results ever at the recent unreserved auction at its site in Leeds, UK, on 31st August, & 1, 2nd September 2011.

With 3661 lots for auction at one sale, it was another record for Euro Auctions, with the hammer price the highest ever at a Leeds sale, being 5% up on the previous high for a sale at Leeds, which was achieved in May 2008.

With the used plant market showing no signs of slowing down the recent Leeds sale was hotly anticipated and registered bidders were again the highest, in fact up by over 20% since the last Leeds sale in June 2011. In all 1194 bidders registered for the sale from over 56 countries. Online bidding was brisk with over 22% of sales due to online bidding, and on this occasion 55% of equipment leaving the UK to overseas buyers.

Country activity was brisk, with buyers from North Africa firmly back as bidders following an absence from the earlier part of 2011, with the Middle East and central Africa showing strong bidding.

In terms of volume at this sale, the tour de force came from the UK, with 75% of all bidders registering from the UK, with 50% of that number purchasing. UK based bidders purchased approximately 42% of the entire sale stock. This is indicative of the current restrictions on the availability of new equipment, and the fluidity of the export market.

Top buying countries were:
1. UK 42% of total sales
2. Netherlands 9% of total sales
3.  Poland 8% of total sales
4. Ireland 7% of total sales
5. Germany 5% of total sales

Healthy interest was also show by buyers from the USA, Australia, United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Lebanon.

Jonnie Keys of Euro Auctions comments: “Leeds is always a great sale for Euro Auctions, however this sale broke all records. We had to close the catalogue for the sale early, as we were in fear of being oversubscribed with lots, which we have not previously seen. We believe the excellent results were due to the long summer recess, and the fact the market is still buoyant due to the lack of new machines. And of course, we have had 3 months since the last Leeds sale in June to find the best stock from across the globe. In truth the auction season starts with the Euro Auctions Leeds sales and bidders are optimistic and as a result prices were excellent.”

“We are seeing increased global activity from Australian buyers, with Poland and central Europe still strong. Finland is a steady market and Lithuania bought surprisingly strongly at this sale. We still believe the market for used plant is sustainable, and think there is enough stock to take us well into 2012”.

The next Euro Auction sales are:
 Dormagen   15 & 16 September
 Valencia   30 September
 Dromore   7 & 8 October
 Leeds   26, 27 & 28 October
